A new bed, at their own pace
Familiar scents, a peaceful spot and a little patience can make all the difference.

Start somewhere familiar
Place the bed near a spot your cat already enjoys. Choose a location away from loud appliances, busy doorways and strong draughts. If the bed attaches to a desk, check the instructions and fit first, then make sure your cat has a safe way to approach it.
Let curiosity lead
Allow your cat to sniff and investigate without being pushed into the bed. You can sit nearby or place a familiar small blanket inside, provided it does not interfere with the bed’s support. Reward calm exploration with attention if your cat enjoys it, and leave them alone when they would rather observe.
Keep their other sleeping spots
Cats often move between several resting places throughout the day. Keep the old favourites available while introducing a new one. A bed may be popular at one time of day and ignored at another, especially as sunlight and household activity change.
Comfort is personal
Give the process time. If your cat avoids the bed, consider its location, access and surroundings rather than forcing them to use it. Sudden changes in sleeping habits or difficulty getting comfortable are worth discussing with your veterinarian.
