A workspace for two

A few thoughtful changes can make your desk a calmer place for you and your curious coworker.

Give them a place of their own

A cat on your keyboard may simply be looking for warmth, attention or a good view. Try offering a comfortable resting spot nearby, away from your mouse and cables. Let your cat explore it in their own time rather than placing them there repeatedly. A familiar blanket can help the new spot feel less unfamiliar.

Keep the essentials out of reach

Tidy loose cables, move drinks away from the edge and put small office supplies in a drawer. Check that plants within reach are safe for cats. If you use a desk-mounted bed, follow the product instructions, check desk compatibility and make sure the attachment is secure before your cat explores it.

Build in little breaks

Short play breaks can be good for both of you. Put your work aside for a few minutes, offer an appropriate toy and let your cat finish the game at their own pace. Keep water and a separate quiet sleeping area available, so being beside your desk is a choice rather than their only option.

Watch what your cat chooses

Some cats love being close to the action; others prefer a peaceful corner. Notice where your cat naturally settles and adjust the space around their preferences. A good shared workspace leaves room for both concentration and companionship.
